AMCO Engineering is a specialist contractor providing innovative multi-disciplinary solutions to the Energy, Environmental and Infrastructure market sectors. AMCO Engineering is a subsidiary of the FTSE listed Renew Holding plc.
AMCO Engineering focus their environmental business around flood and clean water construction projects and asset maintenance and work very closely with public bodies and organisations in this sector. In the energy sector, they construct and maintain assets for a large number of well-known utilities companies throughout the UK.
Their particular challenges
AMCO Engineering had identified that using a paper based system for collecting data about the site works could be improved using an electronic system. An electronic system would provide greater consistency and quality of information and a facility to give an extra level of detail in the form of additional written and pictorial information to their clients, thereby adding value to the information gathered during the site activities. An electronic system would also improve the speed and ability to search through old records to analyse critical information when requested by the client.
Their Maintenance division provided services to a mixture of over 900 flood prevention/alleviation systems, pumping stations, floodgates and penstocks and maintain nearly 4500 pieces of equipment in the process.
AMCO had a desire to move to a more integrated mobile solution that could give their engineers, administration teams and managers more control over scheduling, the quality of information being captured, provide more dynamic access to collected information and therefore deliver better management reporting and audit quality.
What fissara does for them
AMCO Engineering chose fissara’s workforce management software to take on the challenges they face to improve the efficiency and productivity of their business.
AMCO will initially be using some of fissara’s functionality to manage their mobile workforce, who maintain water-pumping stations in their Northwest and Northeast regions. Currently AMCO use a paper-based system that is both labour intensive and monotonous. The fissara system will allow engineers to receive their Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) works and reactive works through a tablet-based scheduling system. The engineers will use fissara’s mobile software to record data in customisable forms and complete the activities associated with these processes on site. This information then feeds dynamically into fissara’s cloud system to be viewed back at the office or anywhere that can access the system via a web browser.
The completed site reports and forms provide the Operations Engineers, based in the office, a centralised view of all site works that have been carried out.
How this benefits AMCO
Moving to a combined cloud and tablet based system will eradicate the mountains of paperwork that AMCO currently have and will immediately improve the quality of data collected. This collected information is stored in the cloud and is easily accessed to generate reports and builds over time to provide a good resource for analysis.
fissara will provide better reporting of activity and an overall improvement when managing works planned in the future. The information gathered is not only vital to produce quality audits but also supports AMCO’s contractual obligations.
Highly flexible scheduling provides an easier way to view and allocate the activities that need to be carried out at their customer’s sites. At a glance the Operational Engineers can adjust and optimise the field engineer’s workload and react quickly in an emergency situation.
The Operating Engineers will be able to tune and streamline their in-house process and adjust to changing requirements and support new contracts. They will also have access to a library of captured images and information to allow better-informed decision-making about onsite activities, remotely from the office.
Overall fissara will make the delivery of the PPM and reactive works more efficient for AMCO and lead to a more productive Maintenance Division within the business.
The solution from fissara is already helping AMCO to explain how they operate and manage a technically modern connected business when going through tender processes to acquire more business. Successfully won tenders will reward AMCO with new contracts to provide vital support and maintenance services on Britain’s waterways.
